Dr. Ray Peat is someone you are about to come to love just as I do, and he graciously sharing his time with me today over the phone.
You will be amazed at the knowledge that is about to be dropped from this man. The laundry list of credentials this man holds, well let’s just say it’s more than you or I could ever dream of holding…. Dr. Peat has a pHd in Biology from the University of Oregon, specializating in physiology. He has taught at the University of Oregon, Urbana College, Montana State University, National College of Naturopathic Medicine, Universidad Veracruzana, the Universidad Autonoma del Estado de Mexico, and Blake College and over the years worked with many private nutritional counseling clients.
He started his research in 1968, long before any of the so-called nutrition nerds who make videos on youtube (myself included) were even born, mainly regarding progesterone, and the hormones closely related to it, as protectors of the body's structure and energy against the harmful effects of estrogen, radiation, stress, and lack of oxygen. Not done yet….
He is also an editor and write of his famous newsletter he puts out, as well author for some fantastic quick reads, one of which is my favorite, “Nutrition for Women”. He is also an artist and some of his artwork as well as amazing blog posts can be seen at http://www.raypeat.com
Here are the highlighted areas if you want to jump ahead, but honestly....you might want to just listen to everything this 83 year old doctor has to say...
2:16 Who is Dr. Ray Peat and his experience in studying Nutrition
6:00 What governs the brain when it comes to staying healthy
7:45 What is the hormone of fertility and brain development

My guest today is exercise physiologist and author, Rob Sleamaker, a SPORTY VERMONTER, INNOVATOR & DARN GOOD guy, based off what his website reads, and founder and creator of my favorite way to train indoors, the Vasa Trainer and Vasa SUP Erg.
As a professional stand up paddle boarder, I am always looking to hone my skills for the water, and sometimes living in the midwest, I have to hone my skills off the water more than I would like. That's why I am a huge fan and user of the Vasa SUP Erg - a stellar low-EMF ergometer that simulates stand up paddling indoors and allows me to get better and better.
But this podcast is more than just a great product introduction and review....
Rob also talks motivation, and how to keep it going well into 2019 and beyond. He also shares insight on why he thinks sticking to exercise is so hard for so many, why it's about staying curious, and he even tells us what it's like to be an "exuberant animal".

Hey and welcome to the Get Fit with Jodelle podcast. I am Jodelle as usual and Today let’s talk longevity and optimal health for the long haul.
Many of you listening into the podcasts I upload will agree that you too are seeking how to live the most optimal life and seeking to fine the most bang out your human being buck if you will....
So it’s important to you to understand the key to a quality existence veruss just a quantity of years. Because people are living longer now but it’s not what I would call quality of life. It’s living in a nursing home or tied to a walker or able to only sit most of the day while on 15 different medications with no energy and no stamina. That’s not living. That’s just existing longer.
So what is the key to quality of life and living optimally long into old age? And what does this simple topic have to do with fat loss and thyroid function and sleep too? I will be addressing these in this podcast.
There are many factors but I’m convinced that we are slowly losing the most important one and that’s what I want to address today.
My professional and personal opinion after being the industry of health for over 18 years is: the village
You’ve heard it said, “it takes a village to raise a family” but it’s not just about family as in moms dads and kids. In traditional villages as families you have those unrelated to you and those related and you needed each other as each person served an intricate role in the survival and surthrival of the village. And today is no different....our immediate village is one of main lifelines and yet sadly it’s being taken for granted.
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4067905/
modern technology has allowed us to grow our village to world wide, where we have social media support groups with friends in Africa while we might live in Brazil or companions in England while we might reside in the USA. While this isn’t wrong or bad and it’s neat to be able to communicate with the world anytime we want to, what’s happening to our immediate village when we are so immersed in the world?
Low dopamine and vitamin P
The key to unlock our world begins with one of the 7 devices most people carry around.... but the danger of our optimal health and quality of life also begins here.
Smartphone, tablet, computer, Xbox, even doorbells that ring to your cell phone!
Touch more, hug, kiss, hold hands. This releases oxytocin, the (love and trust) hormone and regulates social interaction and sexual reproduction. Oxytocin according to a 2013 study is responsible for also regulating body fat loss and inhibiting body fat gain, as well as healing any leptin resistance. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4213929/
Mitochondrial tips:
When reading on phone, turn off data, wifi, and Bluetooth to avoid radiation
This reduces oxidative stress caused by radiation.
Use aux port in your car instead of Bluetooth to avoid unnecessary radiation.
Purchase anti-radiation earbuds
Dim the lights after the sun is down and wear blue blockers. What would you do at night if you didn’t have light, tv, or cell phone? Read? Be intimate with your spouse? Go to bed?
Ground your children..... outside. And ground with them.
Workout outdoors.
Call your mom, don’t text her.
Go visit that person in th nursing home you’ve been meaning too.
Send a card instead of an email thank you.
Call someone to meet you for coffee and don’t show them pics on your phone, just listen to them.
Read to your kids from a book.
